2D panels – panel fencing
2D fence panels with 6/5/6 and 8/6/8 mm wire. Choose the height and colour and see the price straight away.
What 2D panels are
2D panels are fence mesh welded from steel wires: double horizontal and single vertical. This makes them flat, rigid and simple in form, so they look good at a house as well as at a warehouse or factory.
They are fixed to 60×40 mm posts with clamps. To complete the fence you add a plinth, a gate and a pedestrian gate in the same finish.

2D panels 6/5/6 or 8/6/8
The numbers are the wire diameters in millimetres (horizontal, vertical, horizontal). The 6/5/6 panel has Ø6 horizontal and Ø5 vertical wires. It is the universal choice for homes and plots. The 8/6/8 panel has Ø8 horizontal and Ø6 vertical wires; it is stiffer and more expensive, so it suits places where strength counts, for example company sites.

How to choose the height of 2D panels
- 0.83–1.03 m: a decorative garden fence or a clear plot boundary.
- 1.23–1.43 m: front fences and leisure plots.
- 1.63–2.03 m: more privacy and security for the property.
- 2.23–2.43 m: industrial areas and sites that need a high level of protection (made to order).
Remember that the plinth height is added to the fence height, and the post must be long enough to allow for the plinth and the depth in the ground.
How many 2D panels you need
Work out the number of panels by dividing the fence length by 2.56 m and rounding up. A section usually has one more post than panels. So 40 m needs 16 panels and 17 posts. Gates and pedestrian gates are counted separately, and their width is deducted from the panel length.
What to buy with 2D panels
- 60×40 mm posts and mounting clamps,
- concrete plinth with connectors,
- a double-leaf or sliding gate with 2D infill,
- a 1 m pedestrian gate in the same finish.

Frequently asked questions about 2D panels
What are 2D panels?
2D panels are fence mesh welded from steel wires: double horizontal and single vertical. They have a flat, simple construction and a 50×200 mm mesh opening. A panel is 2.5 m wide and the bay used for calculations is 2.56 m.
What is the difference between 2D panels 6/5/6 and 8/6/8?
The numbers are the wire diameters in millimetres: horizontal, vertical and horizontal again. The 6/5/6 panel has Ø6 horizontal and Ø5 vertical wires, while the 8/6/8 panel has thicker ones: Ø8 horizontal and Ø6 vertical. The 8/6/8 version is stiffer and more expensive, so choose it where strength matters.
Which height of 2D panels should I choose?
2D panels are available in heights of 0.83 / 1.03 / 1.23 / 1.43 / 1.63 / 1.83 / 2.03 / 2.23 / 2.43 m. Lower ones mark the plot boundary, taller ones give more privacy and protection. We make the heights 0.83, 2.23 and 2.43 m to order.
How many 2D panels do I need for 40 metres of fence?
Divide the length by 2.56 m and round up, so 40 m needs 16 panels and 17 posts. Add clamps, and extra posts for gates and pedestrian gates. The calculator on our site works out the exact number.
What colours are 2D panels available in?
The panels are available hot-dip galvanised or powder-coated in anthracite RAL 7016, black RAL 9005, green RAL 6005 and brown RAL 8017. Other RAL colours on request. All paint colours have the same price in the calculator.
